The history of MOSCATO DI SCANZO
Wine of legend, wine of the Gods, come to us from the distant prehistory, legend of the wandering peoples of Asia Minor: this is the MOSCATO DI SCANZO. Perhaps Homer, when he spoke of nectar of the Gods, thought of the harmony of this capricious wine as the ancient Hellenic divinities were. Of course it remains its Hellenic origin, that is of that area between Greece and the Aegean band of Asia Minor. With the arrival of the legendary Ateste it reached us around 1000 A.C. this precious gift of nature. From the legend we pass to history. On June 8, 1347, the great Alberico da Rosciate left "a lot of Moscatello Rosso" to Jonolo da Priatini and Donato Calvi in his Ephemerides wrote: "The year 1398 the Guelph portion took via 42 Moscatello Rosso di Scanzo" . The history of this precious wine is long, perhaps no one else can boast a tradition linked to the name of the great architect Giacomo Quarenghi who took him to the Court of the Tsars of All the Russias and his market quotation in London in the year 1850, the only wine Italian to be quoted, for 1 guinea. Nowadays we can only say that since 1993, when it was recognized as a doc, even as an underskirt, it was recognized as DOCG in 2009: the only Italian red sweet Moscato.
